What WTN is on D1 women's tennis rosters?

The short answer

The ITA's published chart places D1 women's tennis rosters at WTN 8.0–24.0 — top third WTN 8.0–14.0, middle third WTN 14.0–18.0, bottom third WTN 18.0–24.0. Lower WTN is stronger. The D1 range overlaps the published D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO ranges, so one rating usually sits inside more than one of them. A women's WTN of 23.0 sits inside the published D1, D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO ranges at once. The chart records the ratings of players already on rosters, so it says who is there — not who gets in. It is not a cutoff, not an admission standard, and not a statement that any program has a spot.

WTN roster ranges by division

Every division the ITA charts, by roster third. Lower WTN is stronger, and the ranges overlap — read down a column and the same rating appears at more than one level.

JUCO is charted by the ITA and shown here, but has no page of its own — the ITA's "JUCO" covers NJCAA and CCCAA programs both.

Honest caveats

  • • These are roster ranges, not cutoffs. The ITA built them from the ratings of players already on college rosters, so they describe who is there rather than who gets in.
  • • The ranges overlap between divisions, and Prospecta will not pick one for you. The D1 range overlaps the published D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO ranges, so one rating usually sits inside more than one of them. Where several levels contain a rating, the chart holds no evidence that one of them is likelier than another.
  • • Lower WTN is stronger, which inverts the usual reading: the smaller number is the stronger end of every range on this page.
  • • There is no equivalent UTR page, here or anywhere. Universal Tennis publishes no division bands, so every UTR-by-division table in circulation is recruiting-service convention rather than a published standard.

Frequently asked questions

What WTN is on D1 women's tennis rosters?

WTN 8.0–24.0 across the division — top third WTN 8.0–14.0, middle third WTN 14.0–18.0, bottom third WTN 18.0–24.0. Lower WTN is stronger. These are the ratings of players already on D1 rosters, which is a different question from what any coach requires.

Does a WTN in that range mean D1 women's tennis?

Not on its own. The D1 range overlaps the published D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO ranges, so one rating usually sits inside more than one of them. A women's WTN of 23.0 sits inside the published D1, D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO ranges at once. Prospecta names every level a rating reaches and ranks none of them, because the chart records rosters rather than odds.

Is there a UTR range for D1 women's tennis?

No governing body publishes one. Universal Tennis publishes no division bands at all, so any UTR-by-division table you find is recruiting-service convention. The ITA — college tennis's governing body — adopted WTN as its official rating in 2023, and its chart is the only published division-level source. Prospecta retired its own UTR-by-division pages for that reason.
